Live updates on Lok Sabha Election 2024 results: Stage set for counting; PM Modi looks set to win for a record third time; India Bloc looks to stage a comeback

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Results Live

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hoping for a third consecutive win while the country eagerly awaits the results of the Lok Sabha elections. While the opposition Bloc India is hoping for a surprise, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has better chances. The long polling process that has lasted for over 80 days will end with the counting of votes.

While the NDA has long been seen as the frontrunner in the polls, the key things to watch are the extent of their victory and what new territory they can capture. As the opposition’s national representation is shrinking, the risk for them is increasing. According to all exit polls, the NDA is on track to reach Modi’s ambitious goal of “crossing 400,” and the India Bloc is also on track to win 180 seats, or one-third of the total.

All parties have reluctantly accepted the election results, but this time the opposition has raised serious concerns about the Election Commission (EC) and the polling process. As the opposition disregarded exit polls that predicted a resounding victory for the incumbent alliance, the post-election period was characterized by hostility between the two opposing camps. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called them “Modi media polls.”.

Given that the Congress’ influence across the country has been waning since 2014, the results will demonstrate whether the party has the organizational strength and leadership needed to take on the BJP. Moreover, the party has lost ground substantially in many regions, especially the Hindi heartland, and has failed to establish itself as the main opposition in two consecutive Lok Sabha elections.

The verdict will also decide the future of key regional leaders like Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, whose parties have partnered with the BJP and who have actively worked to woo voters in their favour. The result will be crucial for former chief ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Basavaraj Bommai, Trivendra Singh Rawat, and the BJP’s Digvijaya Singh and Bhupesh Baghel, besides several Union ministers including Piyush Goyal, Bhupendra Yadav, Sarbananda Sonowal and Dharmendra Pradhan.

Along with Prime Minister Modi, who is contesting from Varanasi for the third consecutive time, other key cabinet officials like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are also contesting, and their success margins will be closely watched. For the latest updates, keep an eye on TOI.

BJP urges the Congress and Indian Bloc to accept defeat gracefully and not doubt democracy Once again, the BJP has attacked the Congress and Indian Bloc, asking them to prepare with dignity and humility for their “inevitable” defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference held at the party headquarters on Monday that the opposition is trying to incite “unrest” in the community on the eve of counting by raising “baseless” concerns about the country’s election process.
